Welcome to the North Jersey Down Syndrome Connection (NJDSC)! If you, a family member or a friend has recently been told that their child has Down syndrome, you most likely have many questions and/or concerns. This website provides a number of resources to address these particulars in a very user-friendly format. Current and veteran families who attend/have attended the Stepping Stones Early Intervention and School Programs as well as staff have contributed to the contents and development of the information in this website.
Hope and experience are resounding themes throughout the pages of this website. You will learn that individuals with Down syndrome can lead fulfilling and productive lives, given the proper supports and opportunities. Most individuals with Down syndrome also live longer lives due to improved medical care. Finally, you will discover how children with Down syndrome are actually more like their typical peers than not.
There is help and support here for you and your child with Down syndrome. We hope that you will take all the time that you need to learn and that your concerns will be addressed adequately. Congratulations on the birth of your son or daughter! You are about to embark upon a new adventure that will change your life in ways you never thought possible, so be prepared!
Your child will have opportunities to be the best that they can be thanks to your support and advocacy. It is our sincere hope that you will be encouraged and motivated by what you read.
